New Yarn! Worsted Wool

Here is the eighth yarn that I would like to introduce you to:

It is 100% wool yarn. I first chose this yarn because the supplier calls it Hood River and I just had to try it out. The yarn that I received reminded me of Cascade 220, with one major difference, it felts! Most overdyed Cascade 220 doesn't felt, or minimally does, because they bleach their lighter color yarns, which makes it unfeltable. This yarn felts just as well as Cascade 220! Which makes me very happy. I keep thinking it would be awesome for the top of a pair of felted clogs with a solid color accent. It has 220 yards of wool yarn and would be suitable for a needle size of 7-9 US.

I knit my sample on size 11s and then washed it with one cycle through my washing machine. Its before measurements were 5 1/4" x 4 1/4" and its post-felting measurements are 6" x 2 1/2".

It would be ideal for hats, scarves, sweaters, felted bags, felted slippers or any other project that calls for worsted weight yarn.

I listed up 4 skeins of this yarn in my etsy shop. The 4 that are listed are Lemon-Lime, Provence, Blue Raspberry, and Childs Play. So, let me know what you think! Blog contest details are listed here. Don't forget to check out the Wool Lace, Silk Sport, Wool/Silk Single, Silk Boucle, Silky Sock, Wool Single and Alpaca Boucle.

Although I would most likely not knit with this, I think it is very versatile and I have heard many people looking for handpainted worsted weight yarn. The fact that it felts is an added bonus. So, I think this would be a good yarn to carry as part of your larger store offerings.

I really like this yarn, and all the colors too!

I like this worseted wool. I think it would be great for sweaters and turtlenecks, especially with the more subdued colors.

This might be my choice, if I won the competition (oh please please please let me win! :-). I think it would be very nice for a sweater. But I agree with dodo, more subdued colors might work better (it would be perfect in Sea Turtle or Bordeaux!). I love the Lemon-Lime, though, it makes me think about summer.

Well, unfortunately, I'm going to win, but that's OK. :-)

I like worsted very much - my favorite weight and these look nice.

This is a winner!

Okay, worsted is my favored yarn. So I like this. And the Provence color is fabulous. Seriously. But I still have the silk/wool combo on the brain that you posted the other day. Why oh why do you have to torment me so (kidding)?

I like worsted too. I'd prefer more subtle colorways, but these are OK.

This is a nice-looking yarn.

I have to agree that this is a winner for your store. Again, the colors are vibrant and lovely, but I do agree with Dodo that I would be more likely to purchase more skeins in subdued colorways.

pretty! I don't felt things (yet) so I'd be less likely to buy this, but I know that there are so few handpaints that it is a winner for you!

This sounds like a good versatile yarn. I like the colourways but would be unlikely to use them for large garments. The Child's Play looks perfect for mittens - pretty and hard to lose!

I'm a sweater-knitter and use worsted all the time, and love handpainted yarns. But only if the colorways are subtle. These are pretty but I wouldn't like it in a large garment.

i like this one a lot--i'm a fan of cascade 220, and blue raspberry and child's play are very lively. :)

I feel like a bit of a broken record, but did I mention I love felting. And this felts up beautifully. I really love all of the colorways this comes in. Makes it tough to pick a favorite. And it looks like a great deal for the price.

I am not a big fan of 100% wool, unless it is softer than most, but I like the colors you've chosen.
