New Yarn! Silk Sport

Here is the second yarn that I would like to introduce you to:

It is 100% silk. It is an absolute luxury yarn. It is smooth and silky (well it is silk). It takes the dyes a little differently than wool or alpaca, but I was expecting that. Silk is special because it takes a little longer to take up the dye, but when it does it creates something that is truly brilliant. It comes in 100 grams skeins from the supplier, which is a bonus to me, but it does mean that the color repeats are shorter than in my other skeins. It has 260 yards and would be suitable for a needle size of 3-5US.

I chose this particular yarn because I wanted a luxury yarn that could be made into socks or other high end luxury projects. What is great about this yarn is that it would be a perfect way to spoil that person in your life who is allergic to animal fibers.

It would be ideal for socks, scarves, mitts, or eye pillows.

I listed up 5 skeins of this yarn in my etsy shop. The 4 that are listed are Midnight Rose, Tequila, Mountain Sunset Blaze, Berry Pie, and Sea Turtle. So, let me know what you think! Blog contest details are listed here. Don't forget to check out the Wool Lace from yesterday as well.

Ok, so I wasn't going to blog much else but yarn, but I have to mention this: I got mentioned on Lynne Vogel's blog! She is the author of both of the Twisted Sister's books!

I would love to use this yarn because it is made up of my favorite colors and I think it would make a lovely scarf or pair of mittens :)

Mazel tov on the mention.. it's gorgeous sweater...

And the silk! YUM!! I like all the colours and am almost happy i don't live really close by because I'd probably try to fill a bathtub with it all and just have fun with it.

I love how your colorways enhance the already beautiful underlying silk. The shine really comes through and makes the colors pop. Further, a quick scan of Etsy revealed only 1 other seller who may use the same base yarn as this but charges $6 per skein more than you. So, the price point seems to be very good.
Unfortunately, as I said yesterday, 90% of my knitting is fingering or smaller so if I did buy a sport yarn, it would be for the occasional gift. But I have to say that the Berry Pie and Sea Turtle are very tempting...

How luscious! Teri

That silk is so lovely. I love how the silk just makes the colors shine, or the colors make the yarn shine...which would that be?
It seems that with just the first two days of your ten, you are going to have a really tough choice about which yarns to carry in your shop, that is if the others are as good.

While I love silk and this is really beautiful, I just don't see myself knitting with it. It is lovely though.

this is a winner, too! I can imagine the cool, smooth yarn around my neck, perhaps knitted into a cravat-length mesh scarf.... lovely!

This is gorgeous! I often choose wool for myself because it's warmer, but this would be great for gifts.

How luxurious! 100% silk is on my "to-knit" list.

I'm probably less likely to use this yarn. I guess I don't care for the shininess, though I guess it would be awesome for that cami in Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I love the Mountain Sunset colorway.

Oh wow! Now this I love. And the price is great. I adore the tequila and sea turtle colorways. I can't even imagine the bliss that these would give made into socks...I would never take them off. I would buy this yarn.

Mmm silk. Again, beautiful colors. I especially like the sunset and the turtle ones!

This would make a gorgeous scarf--I love it!

Now this would make a wonderful set of socks. So soft. I am using cotton to make my first set of socks. I am a bit afraid to use wool. I normally find it itchy and I don't like wearing it. But silk, that would be heavenly. I think I like Berry Pie the best. Something I could wear with dress pants to work. But Tequila is just fun to look at.

I have some eye pillows to knit already with some silk, and I'm thinking this yarn make make me find more reasons to need eye pillows, or something else delectable! :)

I love silk yarn and I am a sweater knitter and love to mix small amounts of precious yarns with more usual ones (like merino). And sport yarn is a good weight. I loved the berry pie and other purplish colorway (I forget the name) best by far.

Oh I love the look of the yarn, especially midnight rose and berry pie. The other colors are less my taste.

I absolutely love knitting with silk and like the 2 purplish colorways a lot. A nice scarf would be great, I think, the sort of thing that you wear for fashion rather than warmth.

Wow, I can almost feel the silky quality of that yarn through the monitor! Absolutely beautiful. The berry pie and sunset ones are my favorites.

The yarn looks really beautiful. I like the midnight rose and berry pie best. I would not use the other colorways. I would definitely use this for a scarf.

I love the yarn color blends. I looked at all your yarn color blends and would love to knit with them all. My least favorite was tequila but i do still like that one as well! Lol, maybe we enjoy the same color combo's or something!

100% silk? Dang. I'm just imagining what lucky person I could give silk socks too! Hopefully you won't sell out too fast, cos I'd love to buy some once I am a teeny bit less broke. My fav of the 4 colorways is Midnight Rose. I haven't seen anything quite like it ever, and it must look amazing when knitted up.

This one I love! My favorite is Berry Pie. The midnight rose is OK too. The others are not my colors.

Now this stuff is SPECIAL. I like each of the colorways a lot and I would splurge on this for a special project or person (like me!)

Would it be blasphemous for me to say that I'm not a fan? I'm just generally not crazy about pure silk. The glossiness puts me off and I have rough hands that cause a lot of things to snag. ;)

I love the Silk Sport, and purple is my favorite color. I would like to make a lacy shawl or a scarf with it.

I **heart** the berry pie yarn. Of course, purple is my favorite color, and I usually dress in all purple at least one day a week...but it's soooo pretty!

Love the sea turtle color. Reminds me of the turtles we saw in Hawaii.
Not too sure about the silk, though.
Although it looks very luxurious, I'm not sure what I'd do with it.

Sea Turtle... definitely. Beautiful colour

I love love love silk!! Thank you for painting some! The Mountain Sunset is neato. :)

Sea Turtle is very soothing - I would make this is a prezzie for someone else.

Oh, I am LOVIN' this stuff!! All of it!

ColibriDreams said...

I have never knitted with silk before but I would definitively give these a try. Love the colors! And you can almost feel the yarn thourgh the monitor.

Gorgeous .. I love the Mountain sunset blaze! The silk is beautiful in every colour, but the MSB is the most spectacular (IMHO)

GHouk said...

For some reason the sea turtle color caught my eye much more in the silk than in the wool lace. The shine is really nice with that color.

Midnight Rose was also lovely in the silk. Very rich looking.

txknitter said...

Yup, I would make a project with this yarn. A scarf or stole from this beautiful yarn would make a great gift for a dear friend.

That tequila would make a sexy camisole to wear on a beach vacation. Ah silk.

Wool and Silk together is like getting the best of
two worlds when it comes to knitting. I always like
"strong" color saturation and this yarn does it.
This yarn I would STRONGLY consider.
