New Yarn! Merino Wool / Silk Single

Here is the third yarn that I would like to introduce you to:

It is 60% Merino Wool and 40% silk. It reminds me of malabrigo with the added shimmer of silk. I just love merino yarn and mixed with silk it is absolutely heavenly. It has 240 yards and would be suitable for a needle size of 7-9US.

I chose this particular yarn because I wanted a basic knitting yarn with a little bit of luxury to it. This yarn is definitely that. The merino wool keeps it at a reasonable price and the silk gives it that extra bit of shimmer to give it that luxury look. It does felt, which means that it needs to be handwashed or it can be felted. I love the way that this yarn felts, because the silk will not felt. So the yarn comes out in an interesting texture. I knit the sample on size 11s and then felted it with one cycle through my washing machine. Its before measurements were 5 1/2" x 4" and its post-felting measurements are 5 1/4" x 2".

It would be ideal for hats, mittens, scarves, eye pillows, felted bags, felted bowls or any other project that calls for worsted weight yarn.

I listed up 4 skeins of this yarn in my etsy shop. The 4 that are listed are Wild Violets, Americana, Camo, and Midnight Rose. So, let me know what you think! Blog contest details are listed here. Don't forget to check out the Wool Lace and the Silk Sport.

Yay for worsted weight - I'm so happy to see this - it's so hard to find handdyed that isn't lace or sock yarn!

I probably would not buy this yarn because I rarely knit with worsted weight yarn and I don't like singles yarn. I really have no reason, I just don't like the look of them and I have a weird mental block that they may bias on me. However, a wool/silk worsted single ply yarn sounds very interesting and I suspect I will be in the minority.

I would not use this yarn because I do not like the mix of colors. I think it would look better if the black yarn was replaced with orange yarn to make it look more autumnal.

I love the colors. Midnight rose is sexy? Hum... I have knit very little with singles but this might change my mind. Teri

Love the wild violets colorway.
I probably would use this yarn just because it felts.

I really like the yarn - worsted is my favorite weight, and I love single ply. But I don't like any of the colorways - I like subtlety.

the yarn looks like it died up really well. I hope that the contest goes well. You know I can always find a reason to BUY it!! hehe..

Another very pretty yarn! It looks like it was painted with watercolours, for some reason.

Very pretty, but I wonder how it will hold up over time. (i.e. pilling)

(sigh) No, I don't think I'd buy this one. I don't like singles, and I don't felt. It looks as if it would feel amazingly soft, but it wouldn't be for me. (sigh)

The first... don't ask me why but I think it captures all seasons.

love this! it would be a splurge for me, but it looks like just the type of yarn i would splurge on.

Gorgeous! A bit out of my price range though. This would be a definite splurge. I would probably just display it and pet it often!

Worsted! In my comfort range! I especially like the Wild Violets (and the cute description at your shop!)

I love the Camo colour, and like that it is a worsted blend (mmmm ... silk!) Nice yarn!

The silk is interesting .. i like that it's a worsted .. i haven't worked much with singles but i could see some interested applications, but am not sure really what patterns would best highlight this yarn short of simple stockinette or things like felted boxes and bowls. i think your colour choices are good and it depends on the users likes.. is the repeat the same as your regular yarns? i think i'd like a bit more chunk of colours to go with the weight of the yarn. it's a shame the internet doesn't have a tactile export feature because i would like to touch this.

The Midnight Rose is a lovely colorway. I have just gotten into a felting kick and it would be very interesting to see the felting results of this.

I would knit with this. Beautiful. I like the worsted weight too.

The yarn is delish! Wants to be a hat, I think. :) I love the Camo, but the Midnight Rose and Violets are too muted for me, and I think I'm allergic tot he Americana.

The color combinations of these yarns are so beautiful! I would like to make a scarf or maybe a lapghan with it.

The yarn is pretty, I love knitting with worsted, and singles are my favorite, but I'm not crazy about any of the colorways. I like the first the best, but those are not my colors

It's funny - one person loves singles, doesn't like the colors, the next likes the colors, but not the weight, or likes the weight but not singles. Seems like we're really hard to please!

That said, I am not crazy about any of the colors and so I would not splurge on this yarn, although the idea of a wool/silk single is very appealing.

I probably use worsted more then anything. Looks like a winner to me!

Midnight Rose YUM! It reminded me of Malabrigo also. I love that it is hand dyed and worsted.

The combination seems interesting. But sorry, I don't really like the colors. Wild violets is the only one I might use.

very fun as well. I liked the americana, would be fun!

I love the Americana colorway. I love worsted weight.
I would use this for a baby blanket for a soldiers
baby or a 4th of July time baby.

The merino and silk sound like a nice combo. I love the wild violets colorway in this yarn. So pretty! I still really like the midnight rose colorway, but I might pick it in the silk. It seemed to really glow in the silk. I have a friend that would love camo, but I honestly can't see ever using the americana colorway in any type of yarn.

Guess I have to agree with Amy, I don't knit with worsted weight yarn very often so my gut says no I wouldn't buy this yarn. Plus, I'm not a fan of single ply yarns.

i like the wild violets and midnight rose colorways...i'd be afraid that the single ply yarn might pill, but i think i'd try it.

Mmmm... Malabrigo type softness! That sounds like trouble. Good to see another worsted yarn.

Pretty stuff but not sure what I would do with it. But lovely shimmer.

I like this yarn. I love to knit with singles. My only complaint would be that some of the colors are not exactly "me" if you know what I mean. And that is completely fine, I'd probably buy it anyway and use it for gifts.

MMM I'not sure about this one, I didn't fallow in love with any of the colors!
I woudn't buy it.

Again, wool and silk is a good combo....I'm not too crazy about the colors - now if you could use the same colors from the Silk Sport...this would be real pretty. This yarn would look pretty knitted
up in a Gansey-type sweater so I would consider
this yarn.
